GBS ?? Guillain-Barre Syndrome?  What in the world is Guillain-Barre Syndrome??  That's what I thought when I heard the term Guillain-Barre Syndrome for the first time.  I was completely in the dark about what it was and how it affects the body.

This is my website with which I am going to post information about my life altering experience with the uncommon medical condition known as Guillain-Barre Syndrome (Ghee-yan Bah-ray).  It is my goal to be able to provide hope and knowledge to those who are currently suffering or recovering from Guillain-Barre Syndrome and their friends and families.

Hopefully this site will provide you with insight to what GBS is, how it affects the body, and what a GBS sufferer may be going through. (The site is going to be a work in progress so check back from time to time.)  I hope you can learn from my experiences and the other survivors who share their stories.  If you have any information to share, or your own story about GBS please contact me!  If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact me.  Before checking out my site please read my disclaimer.

Would you like to print a page for someone to read?  Drop me an e-mail to tell me which pages and I will e-mail you a PDF for easy printing!

I was hospitalized for 6 months.  Four months of that was spent in an ICU and roughly three and a half months of that was spent on a ventilator.  I quickly had a tracheostomy completed and a feeding tube inserted into my stomach so I could receive nourishment.  During my hospitalization I saw three different hospitals in three states.  I was treated by being administered Intravenous immune globulin (IVIG), Plasmapheresis, and a chemotherapy drug called cytoxan.  See "My Story" for details about the onset, my hospital stay, and then my recovery.  The story isn't yet complete but I will be adding to periodically.

I have added a search engine that will allow you to search for a topic of your choice.

A friend or loved one on a ventilator and unable to communicate?  Hit the "Spell Chart" button for a way my family and I found to work best.

Through my entire hospital stay my father kept a daily journal of my progress.  He included things such as heart rate, blood pressure, any changes in my condition, the nurse and or doctors for the day.  It is some very interesting reading now and at the time served as an excellent way of tracking my progress.  As I get more completed on my website I will add a few of the journal entries.
